We are running Alpha online this term. You get to experience Alpha in the comfort of your own homes and to invite others to do the same from theirs. For more information or to sign up email alpha@ccfh.org.uk.

If you are enquiring about, uncertain or just getting into the Christian faith then ALPHA is for you!

“What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions - life and death and their meaning.” (The Guardian, London)

"Doing the Alpha course gave me the opportunity to learn, ask questions, hear from others and enjoy discussion about the Christian faith, all within a welcoming, friendly and relaxed group. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, and would recommend to anyone interested in exploring Christianity." (Louisa from Flackwell Heath)

What is Alpha?     Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in an informal, fun and friendly environment. The Alpha course at Christ Church consists of ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, looking at topics including 'Who is Jesus?' and 'Why and how do I pray?', with one Saturday in the middle. Each talk is followed by discussion in small groups. Daytime groups have coffee and cakes... and evening sessions begin with a dessert. You don’t have to come to the whole course – just pop along for the first session and see what you think. No pressure.

“What distinguishes Alpha from other initiatives is the easy-going, relaxed feel of the proceedings - that, and its astonishing success.” (The Times, London)

“Alpha is a life-changing experience, a path to new discoveries, the historic events of Jesus’s life, astoundingly relevant to us today”. (Paula from Flackwell Heath)

"Alpha helps you to strengthen your faith through listening to other people's religious experiences." (Sheila from Flackwell Heath)

Who is Alpha forAlpha is for everyone; no question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish. We don’t assume any background knowledge of or belief in Christianity and everyone is welcome. Over 2 million people in the UK and 11 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world.

Tom's experience of ALPHA "For me, the Alpha course was a real turning point in my faith! Alpha led to the answering of so many questions, perfectly answered by Nicky Gumbel. Alpha seemed to cover every question possible and questions I’d never thought of were answered and inspired me to share my faith with full confidence! It was great to take part in the course with our great youth group which bonded the whole group to make connections that only grew stronger.

Alpha explained so many ‘Big Questions’ through different perspectives not only in the videos but also in the youth group. At school I find that I’m in a minority as a Christian, but Alpha reassured me that I’m part of this global family of Christians. I got to know so many members of our Church because of Alpha as everyone was so friendly... and there were biscuits!

The common misconception with being a Christian is that Church is for old people, but Alpha reiterates that Jesus is for ALL which was beautifully displayed in the variety of age groups participating in Alpha.

I would strongly recommend Alpha to anyone as it’s so diverse and for all to get to know Jesus and inspired me to spread the good news with happiness; Alpha was also reassuring due to the solid facts of the course which proved that there is more!"

Mel (and Kev)'s experience of ALPHA "When my dad died in 2010 I started to take my mum to Christ Church as I knew she had faith and felt she would like to go; I also knew she would get support from everyone. I did not have faith. I had gone to church as a child but once I started secondary school I stopped going except for the usual weddings and funerals, but I didn’t believe in God. When I started taking mum I thought this is scary, some people were putting their hands up whilst singing. Someone asked if I wanted to do an ALPHA course and I said I would think about it – I was only coming to church to bring mum. Everyone was lovely and I made friends, but I didn’t believe!

As the course start date got closer I found my name on the sign-up sheet. And so with a few nerves turned up on the first day and have never looked back. No one had all the answers or knew the Bible word for word and I actually thought it was quite interesting. Little did I know by the end of the course I would believe in God & Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit, although the Trinity made my brain hurt. I learnt how to pray and that you don’t get answers straight away, although I did. My cat was seriously, emergency vet, blind, possible tumour, worst case scenario. I prayed and two days later the cat could see and I had to ring the vet and say she was fine. They said “We’ll have to put it down as one of those things you can’t explain” but it made me believe in the power of prayer. I was so glad my name had been put down. I am completing my 5th course now as a helper but every time I learn more from the course and others who attend.

It taught me how to forgive people in my life, who for two years had caused me to feel like I was chewed up inside – it was an amazing feeling inside the day I forgave. I will never forget this from one of the ALPHA dvds: “Why allow someone to rent space in your head for free.” The true stories of how people came to faith shown in the DVDs are inspirational. I will never regret the day I did ALPHA. I know it changed my life for good, teaching me so much. I always recommend it to other people.

I prayed along with others at church that Kevin, my husband, would do ALPHA and he is completing his 2nd course now and said the other day at our homegroup “I understand now that people were praying for me when I was ill and what affect that has had.” Kevin would just drop me and mum off and turn up for a cuppa afterwards but now he wants to go to church, and take part in things.

ALPHA lets a person decide for themselves; there is no pressure to suddenly start believing but, wow, what a wonderful feeling when you do. As a result of ALPHA I went on to be confirmed and I remember one Sunday service when my faith moved from my head to my heart; I was overjoyed by the love I felt from God and I knew I would never be on my own again and always loved. The best feeling!"
