Weddings

Marriage is an important step in life. Today more than a quarter of all marriages in England take place before God in the traditional setting of a Church of England church. At Christ Church we want to help you make this special day as memorable and enjoyable as possible and look forward to helping you plan your big day at Church and hope to make it both a wonderful wedding day and the beginning of a long and very happy marriage.

Christ Church is a great place to get married. Light and intimate, it offers a traditional setting with great modern facilities. Couples may be married at Christ Church if you meet one of the following five criteria: One of you, or your parents, is resident in this parish, or on the electoral role; or one of you was baptised or prepared for confirmation in this parish; or one of you, or your parents, has at any time lived in this parish for 6 months or more; or one of you, or your parents has attended Christ Church for 6 months; or one of your parents or grandparents was married at Christ Church.

The fees for a church wedding in this parish are usually around £550, including the organist and a verger. Please contact the Church Office for full details. There are also some optional extras like Church flowers. The fees are usually increased in line with inflation each year.

Please do ask one of the Clergy about your wedding or phone the Church Office - we shall be delighted to do all we can to help

Banns

It may be that you live in the Parish of Flackwell Heath but are getting married in another Parish. If that is the case then you will need your Banns read for three weeks at Christ Church. Banns are an announcement of your intention to marry and need to be read in the parish where each of you lives as well as the church in which you are to be married. You are warmly invited to attend our morning services where your Banns will be read. These will be read out in church for three Sundays during the three months before the wedding. We usually try to read the Banns about 6 weeks before your wedding date. Please contact the Church Office for further details and an application form.

Getting married is a considerable commitment and the Church of England's Wedding Website offers you lots of resources to help you think about your wedding and marriage and to help you get started in your wedding planning.

Weddings at Christ Church

Andy and Melissa: "We have always felt that marrying in a church and saying our vows to God and in front of family and friends, was the only option for us. To have God's blessing and assurance and his love and support during our marriage was the most perfect way to start our married life together. I believe that if we chose to have a civil ceremony, we'd have felt like something was missing!"

Matt and Nikki: "Our day was truly amazing. Everyone at Christ Church was very supportive in the run-up to the ceremony."

Chris and Cassie: "The day was perfect (although it passed in a flash). The Christ Church community were immensely supportive both before and after the day, and it was special to see so many of their faces in the congregation."

Marriage Blessing and Renewal of Marriage Vows

If you choose to marry at another authorised venue or overseas you may still have a Church blessing. There is a service of prayer and dedication after a civil ceremony that can be adapted. Please contact the Church Office for more details. We are permitted to remarry divorcees in certain circumstances so it may be worth your while enquiring further, but we also offer a service of Thanksgiving of Marriage, which may be used for a number of different occasions including renewing your marriage vows and to celebrate a special anniversary.
